Here To Help?

I’ve applied for a job with Brewers; what are the next steps?

Once we advertise a vacancy, our recruitment team and the Hiring Manager start shortlisting candidates based on the skills and experience needed for each role. To ensure you have the best chance of being shortlisted, please demonstrate all your relevant skills and knowledge and answer all the questions on the application form.

We advertise most of our roles for two weeks; however, if we receive a high volume of applicants, we may expire a vacancy early. We aim to respond to every candidate who has fully completed the application process to let them know the outcome of their application.

How long does the application process take?
It will vary between roles, but we aim to fill our vacancies promptly. We communicate with applicants using the email address and mobile number provided on your application forms, so please make sure your contact information is correct.

I’m having technical issues with my application. Who can I speak to about it?
If you encounter any technical issues with your application, rest assured that you can use our ‘Live Chat’ feature during the process. Our applicant tracking system provider, Hire Road, is there to assist you with any technical queries. However, please note that they won’t be able to provide details about the position you are applying for.
I don’t have a CV – can I still apply?

All our vacancies will require you to complete an online application form; some may also ask for a CV. We value your unique experiences and skills, so please provide as much information as possible on your application form!

If a role you are applying for requires a CV and you don’t have one, there are many online tools and templates available that you can use to develop one. It doesn’t need to be complicated or long-winded – it’s a chance to showcase you as an individual.

I don’t have an email address – will this be a problem?
Due to the online system we use, all candidates need to apply for vacancies online via our applicant tracking system. To do this, you will need an email address. We also send some of our communications via email. If you don’t have an email address, you can easily set up a free one with services such as Hotmail or Google. Simply visit their websites and follow the instructions to create a new account. If there is a specific reason you cannot set up an email address, please call the recruitment team at Brewers.
Can Brewers support my visa application to work in the UK?
Unfortunately, Brewers cannot sponsor individual visas to work in the UK.
I have a disability that makes the application process and interview challenging for me – can you help?
Yes, we will be pleased to help you. Please get in touch with our Recruitment team at recruitment@brewers.co.uk or call 01323 411080 and ask to speak to the recruitment team to discuss the support you may need.
I am neurodivergent. Can you offer me additional support during the application or the interview process?

Yes, we can offer help and support. Please get in touch with our Recruitment team at recruitment@brewers.co.uk or call 01323 411080 and ask to speak to the recruitment team to discuss the support you need.

We will discuss the support you may need, and our response will reflect your individual needs. We will listen to any requests for changes to the process and can talk you through some options that may be suitable.

I have a criminal record – will that prevent me from being considered for a role with Brewers?
A criminal record will not necessarily prevent you from being considered for a position with Brewers. We understand that everyone’s circumstances are unique, and we consider each application on a case-by-case basis, considering the role you are applying for. If you have a criminal record, we encourage you to be open and honest about this during the application process.
I have a question that isn’t listed – who can I contact?
If you have an additional question not listed, please submit it below in our ‘ask a question’ section. This is a space where you can ask any question related to the application process, the role, or Brewers as an employer. Our team will review your question and respond as soon as possible. Alternatively, you can call 01323 411080 and ask to speak to the recruitment team. A member of our recruitment team will respond as soon as possible.

Does Brewers work with recruitment agencies to fill the vacancies?
We prefer to receive applications directly from the candidates. We generally do not work with agencies for roles based in branches or our warehouse, as we can find brilliant candidates ourselves. Occasionally we work with agencies for specialist roles.
I am a recruitment agency, and would like to work with Brewers – what do I do?
Please read the above and be aware that we rarely work with agencies. You can email recruitment@brewers.co.uk with your details, and we may get back to you if you can help us with a vacancy. We ask recruitment agencies to refrain from sending speculative CVs or try to contact us initially by phone.

What happens at an interview?

Our interviews are conducted in various ways and could include more than one stage for some roles. Two people may also interview you at the same time. We will explain the interview format in your interview invitation, but here are some examples of how we currently carry out our interviews:

  • Telephone screening — If we have a high volume of applicants, our recruitment team often conducts telephone screening calls with candidates to support some of our hiring Managers. Screening will include asking for basic information about your experience and discussing the role.
  • Video/Online interview — If we cannot meet you in person, we may use a video interview (usually via Microsoft Teams) to host an interview online. We may also use Teams for a first-stage interview. We will email you a link to the online video interview so you can join us on the day.
  • In-person interview — Most in-person interviews are held either in one of our branches or at Albany House in Eastbourne. Occasionally, we may need to use an external venue such as a conference centre or hotel meeting room.
  • Our interview structure — While it's important to have a structure to our interviews to ensure a fair selection process for all candidates, we always do our best to put you at ease and help you feel comfortable.

The interviewers will introduce themselves and allow you to ask any questions. They will then take turns asking questions to learn more about your previous experience and skills. If you struggle with an answer, don't worry. Ask for more time or ask to come back to that question at the end.

When the interview is over, you will have another opportunity to ask any questions that may have come up. The interviewers will then give you a timescale for hearing the outcome of your interview. This is typically within a week, but it may vary depending on the number of applicants and the complexity of the role. We understand that waiting for a response can be stressful, and we aim to provide you an update as soon as possible.

How should I prepare for my interview?

We understand that interviews can be nerve-racking, so we always try to make the experience as friendly and seamless as possible. Here are some tips to help you give your best:

  • Don’t rush – plan your journey to your interview and allow for travel delays.
  • Ask for support - if there is anything we can do to help you during your interview, just ask.
  • Research us before – it’s always a good idea to know who you might be working for, and there’s plenty online about what we do.
  • Read the Job Description – we will send a copy of the Job Description with your interview invitation. Take the time to read through it and consider how your skills and experience meet what we are looking for.
  • Prepare answers to common interview questions and think of examples from your experience that demonstrate your skills and abilities
  • Come prepared – we are happy for you to bring some notes to help you give your best performance. Remember the interview is a two-way process so please do ask us questions too.
